Climate and Diversity Committee
The mission of the Eberly Climate and Diversity Committee is to further the college’s vision of providing a supportive and welcoming environment in which all of its diverse members can carry out their individual missions of research, service, teaching, and learning. The committee is charged by the dean to assess and improve the climate of the college as a place to work and study. Past recommendations have included implementing the Ombuds program, graduate student mentoring guidelines, digital displays, and postdoc individual development plans.
Members of the college’s Climate and Diversity Committee consist of faculty, staff, and student representatives from each department and unit. Each year, the committee selects climate projects and initiatives to work on, and subcommittees are created for each of the chosen initiatives.
The Eberly ombuds assist faculty, staff, and graduate students in conflict resolution and solutions-oriented support. Although each department has at least two Eberly ombuds, individuals can choose to meet with any ombudsperson across the college.
The Eberly College of Science Dean's Climate and Diversity Award was created in 2009. These awards are designed to recognize individuals and programs that have displayed extraordinary commitment to enhancing our environment of mutual respect and diversity.
Promoting diversity and inclusion activities within the college, to inspire departmental climate and diversity committees to take positive action, and encouraging collaboration across units.
