BMB Scholars Program Application
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must have completed at least three semesters of coursework.
- Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average above 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, as of Spring 2022.
- Applicants must be proposing research under mentorship of BMB Scholar Mentor.
- Applicants must submit intent to apply by indicated deadline. (Spring 2022 – January 28)
Required applications materials
- A curriculum vitae.
- An unofficial copy of student transcript from Lion Path.
- A two-page research proposal written by the applying student.
- A one-page statement of goals written by the applying student.
- Two letters of recommendation provided by faculty members (emailed directly from faculty member to the Department's Undergraduate Studies Coordinator).
- One of the two letters of recommendation must be provided by the proposed research mentor.
Applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria:
- Academic excellence, including courses taken and grade point average.
- Research excellence, including importance and feasibility of the proposed research, and scholarship of the research proposal.
- Support from the proposed Mentor.
- Demonstration of potential for success in graduate or medical school and leadership in a scientific career.

Notifications for students selected to participate in round 2 of selection process

Applicant Interviews
- Monday, February 28 – March 4, 2022
- Applicants selected for an interview will be asked to give a 15-minute oral presentation about his or her research proposal to the selection committee. The presentation will be followed by a 15-minute discussion of the proposal, career goals, and other aspects of the application of interest to the selection committee.
- Students will be evaluated on their ability to effectively communicate scientific information to a knowledgeable but not expert audience, their ability to answer scientific questions about their proposal, and their potential as future leaders in science.
